Things I Love About Grandma Chick

The way she always called me “Darlin’”.
The way her house in Provo smells
Her home cooked Sunday dinners when I was in college and the fact that all of my friends wanted to come over to her house.
Wax paper wrapped sandwiches.
Her love of camping and the outdoors.
Her rolled cuff jeans.
Her foodroom full of canning jars.
Tab
The way she smiled when she told stories.
The Volvo
Homemade strawberry jam.
The feeling of joy when we would arrive in Provo after a long trip
The stories of how she loved to dance.
The can of coffee on the countertop at Mom and Dad’s house when Grandma would visit
The Ding Dongs that we would get when she came to visit
Bacon – even though I learned later that she really didn’t like to cook it
Her many purses and matching earrings
“What’ll you have?”
Her love of the ballet and opera – she took me to my first opera when I was in college (I still have the ticket stub)
Her amazing garden
She always had a classic movie to watch when I would come over to her house
The back patio swing in Provo
Gathering at her house for holidays when we were kids
Jose Carreras
Snapping peas on the back patio
Roast beef, gravy, green beans, mashed potatoes
“Smells fruity in here”
Her thoughtful cards and letters - she always wrote a message
Fishing trips and Grandma hitting the fish with the pliers
Random curse words thrown into the conversation
Her independent attitude, even in later years
and finally,
The way she made me feel loved.
