Is That Snow??? In the San Fernando Valley???

After a wild and cold storm last night, we awoke to some ice on our windshields, and, would you believe it- SNOW on the hills behind the YMCA!!!!

It started melting pretty much the moment the sun came up, but at 8:15 there was still enough on the hills for me, and at least a dozen other drivers, to stop and gawk and take pictures. You'd think that we'd never seen snow before!! Well we haven't...here, anyway.

These same hills were on fire a month and a half ago.

So much for global warming!

Me too! Me too!

Although not as dramatic, and certainly not as sweeping of a view, I too witnessed a remarkable sunset last Thursday evening, Suz! And I ran in to get my camera before my 30 degree view was blocked by airplanes.
Who says the Valley's not pretty?
Look at what smog can do for a sunset. Just don't look below that treeline and you might think you're in paradise!

Thursday Sunset

Last week seemed to be the unofficial atmospheric holiday showcase - a huge yellow moon, shooting stars, and incredible sunsets. On Thursday, I was making dinner and I happened to look up and see this:

Awesome! My jaw totally dropped and I stopped to gawk for a while. Can you believe the colors? It looks like the sky is burning. It totally lit up the water with color - I wish I had a telephoto lens to capture it more completely.

It is amazing what one can witness if one takes a moment to look up from chopping vegetables...

Not a bad backdrop for the Christmas tree, eh?

Erin Runs The C.I.M.

Erin ran the CIM today and she did spectacular! Carrie, Kirk, Ali, Jeremiah, Paige and Ben braved the fog and cold temperatures for a chance to cheer Erin on as she completed her 3rd (I think) marathon. Way to go Erin! The official results are as follows:

Erin placed 50th in her age group - Nice! - and 1396th overall. Her final time was 3:36:02, which is 4 minutes faster than her previous runs. Awesome! There were over 5000 people running the race.

Kirk and Carrie were able to go to three different spots along the race route to cheer Erin on. We met up with them at 11th and L about 5 minutes before Erin ran by.
Here she comes...

Go Erin, Go! (Look at that form!)

Erin does her space woman impersonation after the race. I wish I looked that good after running 26.2 miles, or just walking down the street for that matter.

Erin you are a superstar!
